Sofia Riggio

SONO Co-Director and VONO choirmaster Sofia Riggio is a conductor, singer, and creator based in New Orleans and New York. She first joined SONO in 2019 and since then she has conducted a myriad of both choral and orchestral concerts with the organization.

Sofia has degrees in conducting, classical voice, and art history. She received a masters in conducting from Loyola University under the tutelage of Maestre Dr. Carol Rausch and Dr. Meg Frazier. With the Loyola Opera Theatre she conducted Mozart’s The Impresario, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica.

Sofia has conducted multiple world premieres in Italy and the US; In Narni, Italy, she conducted rehearsals of the staged premiere of Landau’s Pietà, while Saratoga, New York saw her premiere numerous orchestral works with the Mostly Modern Festival. Most recently, Sofia assisted Maestro Peter Kozma in Opera Neo’s production of Mozart’s Mitridate.

Her opportunities have allowed her to conduct, compose, re-orchestrate, and coach both classical and contemporary music.
